Technical Description Reflection

As Engineers, we should be able to take an object, break it down, and understand the mechanism driving the thing. This essay had tested me on my ability to perform such task and it was challenging. Going into this assignment, I had no idea what to expect, initially, I underestimated the complexity of this task and by extension, the complexity of what appeared to be simple objects.

The genre of writing I practiced in this piece was informative. My purpose for writing this piece was to inform the reader of about the electrical outlet and how the components work together to make the outlet work. In my writing, I detailed to components and created diagrams that would make it easier for the readers to understand, all in tandem with the research I preformed.

The reason I chose an electrical outlet was because it seemed to be the perfect object, we interact with regularly but don’t understand enough. Though we use this object daily, we don’t know about the many mechanisms driving the object.

My Intended audience for my writing was my teacher and classmates. My secondary audience could be anyone who would want to learn about an electrical outlet.

Now having completed my technical description, I can say with certainty that I have grown as a writer, and through this experience, I was able to engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond; And through my research, I was able to strengthen your source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources).
